Straw addition boosts soil nutrients, revolutionizing crop cultivation in arid regions.
A 7-year study looked at how different farming methods and nitrogen levels affect nutrient balance in soil for maize-wheat crops. Adding straw to the soil helped balance nutrients better than traditional methods. Using 120 kg/ha of nitrogen kept nitrogen levels in balance, but increasing to 240 kg/ha led to nitrogen buildup. More nitrate accumulated in the soil when nitrogen balance increased. The balance of phosphorus and potassium in the soil was linked to the levels of Olsen-P and available K. Overall, the nutrients in the soil were mainly influenced by the balance of nutrients present.
