A new drilling technique combining oil drilling and geology methods is suggested for drilling a 5000m deep hole in hard rock. This method involves using a high-speed top drive head and a diamond wireline coring system on a petroleum rotary rig. This approach has been proven to be the most cost-effective way to continuously core in deep and tough formations.
