Study reveals how light affects plant photosynthesis rates throughout the day
Trifolium plants were studied in full light and light shaded conditions. Plants in full light had higher photosynthesis rates than those in shade. The daily patterns of photosynthesis and transpiration showed two peaks. Stomatal limitation was the main reason for midday photosynthesis decrease. Stomatal conductance and CO2 concentration affected photosynthesis rates. Plants in shade had different photosynthesis patterns compared to those in full light.
