The researchers studied how well free-water surface constructed wetlands can clean up household sewage. They found that these wetlands can remove around 75% of pollutants like CODCr, TN, and TP. To meet water quality standards, sewage needs to stay in the wetlands for at least 3-6 days. Wetlands with plants are better at removing TN and TP than those without plants.
