Wild Arachis species reveal high oil content potential for peanut production
Wild Arachis species were studied to find those with high oil content for improving cultivated peanuts. 87 wild Arachis accessions were tested, revealing 12 with oil content over 58%. The highest oil content genotype found was A.appressipila with 62.90%. A.monticola and A.villosa were closely related to cultivated peanuts. The study showed significant variation in oil content among different Arachis species, with some wild species having higher oil content than cultivated peanuts.
