The researchers used a combination of coagulation and ultrafiltration to clean surface water in North China. They found that ultrafiltration effectively removed turbidity, bacteria, coliform, and iron from the water, but struggled to remove larger organic molecules. The cost of the ultrafiltration unit was determined to be 0.27 Yuan/m3.
