Ancient River Terraces in China Reveal Secrets of Plateau Uplift.
The Zagunao River terraces in Western Sichuan Plateau were formed due to tectonic uplift events since the middle Pleistocene. By dating terrace ages, researchers found that the terraces were shaped by regional uplift, with an average incision rate of 0.39 meters per thousand years. This rate matches the uplift rate of the Longmen Mountain, indicating a connection between the two geological processes.
