Reclaimed wetlands lose flood control ability, impacting river runoff distribution.
The study looked at how wetlands in the Sanjiang Plain manage water, comparing them to farmland. They found that wetlands have higher evaporation in dry summers but lower in rainy autumns compared to farmland. Wetlands can help control floods by storing water and slowing down flood flow. However, if wetlands are reclaimed, their ability to control floods and provide benefits will decrease.
