Acacia mangium plantation boosts water resources with lower canopy interception rate.
The study looked at how Acacia mangium trees in a forest farm affect rainfall. They found that the trees intercepted some of the rain, with 8.5% being caught by the canopy. The rest either fell through the leaves (84.2%) or ran down the tree trunks (7.3%). The amount of rain intercepted varied depending on the season, with more being caught during dry periods. Compared to other types of forests, Acacia mangium trees let more rain through and keep less for themselves, which helps the overall water supply in the forest.
