Guangdong's Urbanization Threatens Food Security, Cultivated Land Vanishes
The article examines the impact of urbanization on cultivated land in Guangdong province. As cities grow, they take up more space, leading to a decrease in farmland. The study looked at data since 2000 to understand how urbanization affects cultivated land. It found that the rapid urbanization in Guangdong is resulting in the shrinking of farmland. This shrinking poses a challenge as it creates a conflict between urban development and the need to protect agricultural land. To address this issue, the article suggests coming up with strategies to balance urban expansion with the protection of cultivated areas. The findings highlight the importance of managing the growth of cities in a way that doesn't harm agricultural land, crucial for ensuring food security and sustainable development.
