The article discusses the different ethnic groups in South China and how they interacted and evolved over time. In ancient times, there were many diverse ethnic groups in the region, but by the Qing Dynasty, they became fixed at three levels. The Han ethnic group had more dialects compared to other ethnic groups in South China. Identification of each ethnic group was based on their origin and language.
