The Lower Weihe River has been changing from depositing sediment to eroding its banks. Big floods in 2003 made the river wider and able to carry more water. Less sediment coming in and smaller suspended particles are causing the river to dig deeper. The river's capacity to transport sediment has increased due to these changes.
