A study looked at how mixing Chinese fir and Phyllostachys heterocycla cv. Pubescens trees affects water conservation. They compared pure forests with mixed forests of different tree densities. The forest with 1,800 Chinese fir trees per hectare used nutrients best, had the most growth, and was best at conserving water.
