Urban expansion in Chongqing City driven by economic growth and population increase.
The study looked at changes in land use in the central area of Chongqing City from 1986 to 2007. By analyzing satellite images and data on land use, the researchers found that there were significant shifts in the types of land being used. Shrub land and construction areas increased, while cropland decreased. The main changes were cropland turning into construction land and forestland, especially in urban areas. The economy and population growth were the main reasons for these changes, along with government policies. Overall, the study showed how urban development and economic factors drive changes in land use over time.
