Coastal wetlands shrinking as artificial fish pools expand rapidly.
The study analyzed changes in the landscape pattern of Yancheng coastal wetland over 15 years using satellite images. It found that from 1992 to 2006, there was a significant decrease in natural wetland areas like bare beach and Phragmites australis, while artificial wetlands like fish pools and farmland increased. The reclamation of land led to a shift from natural to artificial wetlands, with fish pools becoming the dominant feature. This transformation resulted in the loss of natural habitats and the expansion of human-made environments in the coastal wetland area.
