Cooperative research and development (RD) can lead to better RD performance in certain environments. The study looked at how the level of environmental change affects RD performance when organizations collaborate on RD projects. In stable environments, maximum RD performance is achieved with a certain level of cooperative RD participation. However, in more dynamic environments, cooperative RD can actually hinder RD performance.
