Reservoir sedimentation delays elevation response, impacting water management and safety.
The study looked at how sedimentation in the Sanmenxia Reservoir affects the elevation of Tongguan. They found that Tongguan's elevation is influenced by both current and past flow and pool levels. There is a 2-year delay in Tongguan's elevation compared to sediment deposition downstream. The sediment deposition is linked to the pool level over 5 years, and Tongguan's elevation is connected to the average runoff over 6 years. The channel bed slope from Tongguan to Guduo is affected by the pool level over 7 years.
