Solar Greenhouses Offer Affordable, Climate-Friendly Seedling Solution for Farmers
Comparing two types of greenhouses in Hebei Zhuozhou, researchers studied how modern and solar greenhouses perform for growing plants in the summer. They found that the daily maximum temperature in both greenhouses stayed lower than 31℃ for the solar one and 30℃ for the modern one between late July and late August. After that, temperatures decreased to around 16-25℃ for the solar greenhouse and 15-23℃ for the modern one until mid-October. The air humidity was higher in the solar greenhouse before mid-September but lower afterward than in the modern greenhouse. The construction and electricity costs were significantly lower for the solar greenhouse compared to the modern one. However, the land efficiency for growing seedlings was higher in the modern greenhouse.
