Fujian's water resources sustainable, but future supply at risk as ecological capacity declines.
The researchers looked at how water resources in Fujian Province were being used between 1999 and 2007. They found that the development of water resources in Fujian Province was sustainable during this time. Each person in Fujian used about 0.84 hectares of water each year, and this amount increased slightly each year. The province had about 7 hectares of water available per person, which means there was a surplus of about 6 hectares per person. However, if the environment gets worse, there may not be enough water available despite this surplus. So, even though Fujian had extra water at the time, there could be a problem in the future if things change.
