Study reveals plants' water needs change with seasons, impacting ecosystems.
The researchers studied how different plants in the Hunshandake sand region release water through their leaves, called transpiration. They used a special device to measure this process in various plants and found that some plants have a consistent pattern of water release throughout the day, while others have a two-phase pattern. The amount of water released by each plant depends on factors like soil moisture, season, and sunlight. Overall, the transpiration rate is highest in July and lowest in June. The main factor influencing transpiration is the intensity of sunlight, followed by air humidity and temperature. The relationship between water release and environmental factors is straightforward and can be predicted using a mathematical equation.
