Ecological changes in northern China driven by human activities and economic development.
The article examines changes in cultivated land in northern China from 1983 to 2001. By analyzing satellite data, researchers found that desert and cultivated land increased while forest and shrub land decreased, impacting ecological balance. Cultivated land shifted southwest due to topography and transportation, with land use intensity decreasing farther from main roads. Economic development and improved living standards influenced agricultural land changes during the study period.
