Wang Jinggong's Poetic Style Criticized for Inferiority to Tang Dynasty Poems
Wang Anshi's later poems were highly respected in the Song Dynasty, but there were differences in how they were viewed between the Northern and Southern Song periods. The Northern Song preferred his mild and graceful style, while the Southern Song focused on Jueju poems, considering them the ideal. In the book "Cang Lang Shi Hua," Yan Yu argues that Wang Jinggong Style refers to Wang's Jueju works from his later years. This style is influenced by poets from the late Tang Dynasty, leading Yan Yu to believe it is not as good as Tang Dynasty styles. Yan Yu's views show a preference for Tang Dynasty poetry over Song Dynasty poetry.
