Human Activities Drive Shift in Landscape Characteristics in Farm-Forest Ecotone.
The study looked at how landscapes change in areas where farms and forests meet. Using GIS and RS technology, researchers analyzed how height and slope affect landscape features in Mudanjiang, China. They found that human activities like farming and forestry directly impact these changes. In areas below 800 meters, there were more patches of land, but as the slope increased, the landscape became less diverse. From 1976 to 1988, landscape changes were more common in low-altitude, high-slope areas, while from 1988 to 2000, changes shifted to high-altitude, low-slope regions. Overall, landscape changes were most noticeable in areas with lots of human activity.
