Dwindling Sediment Levels in Three Gorges Reservoir Threaten Downstream Ecosystems
The study analyzed how rainfall and human activities affect water flow and sediment in the Xiangxi River watershed. They found that annual rainfall and water flow decreased slightly over time, while sediment load decreased significantly. The biggest changes in sediment and water flow occurred in 1994 and 1991, respectively. The main reason for these changes was human activity.
