Insect diversity thrives in diverse forests, impacting ecosystem health.
Researchers studied insect species diversity in the secondary forest region of Taizi Mountains in Gansu Province. They found 682 insect species belonging to 507 genera, 131 families, and 13 orders. Forests with diverse plant species had higher insect diversity and evenness, and lower dominance. Insect species composition varied significantly among different forest types, with alpine bushes dominated by Rhododendron species being notably different.
