New study reveals how multiple piles can enhance foundation stability
Model tests were conducted to study how piles interact with soil and caps. The number of piles affects the ratio of pile toe penetration to foundation settlement. Two piles increase contact pressure on the cap more than one pile. Displacement between pile and soil spreads from toe to cap. Soil stress at pile toe depth is higher with two piles, leading to greater toe resistance. Shaft resistance differs inside and outside the foundation.
