Climate change in Tarim River Basin leads to increased summer precipitation.
Climate changes in the Tarim River basin were studied from 1961 to 2008 using data from 39 weather stations. The researchers compared precipitation and temperature data from 17 climate models with actual observations. They found abrupt changes in precipitation in 1986 and temperature in 1996. Since 1996, there has been a warming trend in all seasons, especially in summer. The models generally predict higher precipitation and lower temperatures than observed. Overall, the models project a consistent increase in air temperature from 2011 to 2050 in the Tarim River basin.
