New oil and gas reservoir discovery in rifted lake basin revolutionizes exploration.
The study looked at how different types of oil and gas reservoirs form in a specific area called Qikou Sag in Bohai Bay Basin. They found that in some parts, the oil and gas move up and down through fractures in the rocks, creating reservoirs at different depths. In other areas, the oil and gas spread horizontally through the rocks, forming reservoirs that cover a large area. The researchers identified specific regions with high-quality rocks, major sand bodies, positive structures, high pressure, and unique rock types as important targets for finding more oil and gas.
