The article explores how ZHENG Xuan's interpretations of ancient poetry using the Yi can enhance our understanding of the Classic of Poetry. By analyzing his notes and commentaries, it is revealed that his use of social ideas enriches metaphors, the concept of the Mandate of Heaven, and the satirical nature of the poetry. This sheds new light on how poetry was studied during the Han dynasty.
