Rising temperatures in Yellow River Basin lead to increased evaporation.
Temperature changes affect how much water evaporates in the Yellow River Basin. By studying air temperature and evaporation data from 12 locations, researchers found that as temperatures rise, potential evaporation also increases. The evaporation in the basin goes up by 5% to 7% for every 1-degree increase in temperature. The rate of evaporation change is highest when the aridity index is 3. The researchers' formula for estimating evaporation gives similar results to a previous formula.
