Soil water properties impact forest management and ecosystem health.
The study compared soil properties in different bamboo forest management models. The soil buck densities were highest in mixed forests with Cunninghamia timber and lowest in bamboo shoot-use stands. Total soil porosity varied between 50.80% and 69.75%, with non-capillary porosity making up around 1/5 to 2/7 of total porosity. The maximum and capillary moisture capacities of the soil were highest in mixed forests with Cunninghamia timber and lowest in bamboo shoot-use stands.
