The study looked at how PTT resins break down when heated in different environments. In nitrogen, the resins lose weight as their chains degrade. In air, there are two weight-loss processes: one from chain degradation and another from the breakdown of products formed during the first process. The first process in nitrogen and air shows the stability of PTT against thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation.
