New Rice Varieties Boost Quality and Nutrition for Healthier Diets!
The study looked at different types of rice plants to see how their traits affect grain quality. They tested 42 varieties and found that certain plant characteristics like panicle type and height influenced the quality of the rice grains. For example, plants with curved panicles and light panicle types had good appearance quality, while those with semi-erect panicles and loose panicle types had good processing quality. Plants with certain traits also had better cooking and eating quality or nutritional quality. Maintaining specific plant traits like reducing neck-panicle node width and panicle length can improve grain quality. Additionally, factors like photosynthesis rate and chlorophyll content also play a role in determining the quality of rice grains.
