Economic Growth and Policies Drive Shift from Farmland to Urban Development.
The study analyzed changes in construction and cultivated land in Urumqi City from 1996 to 2011. They found that construction land grew steadily, while cultivated land initially decreased, then increased before decreasing again. Economic development, population growth, technology advancements, and industrial changes were key factors driving these land use changes. Policies and measures played a crucial role in guiding these changes. The strength and direction of these driving forces varied between construction and cultivated land. This research helps understand the reasons behind land use changes and provides a basis for sustainable land use and environmental protection.
