New image thresholding method enhances object highlighting in infrared images.
A new method for image thresholding was developed based on the histogram of the image. By analyzing the peaks and valleys in the histogram, a novel thresholding measurement was defined to improve the segmentation process. This method combines mutual recognitions of histogram bins and speeding-up strategies to make image thresholding more practical. In experiments, this new method outperformed other existing methods, particularly in highlighting objects in infrared images.
