Sediment Nutrient Losses Impact Water Quality in Purple Soil Slopes.
The study looked at how different nutrients in soil affect erosion on sloped land in China. They used simulated rainfall to see how nitrogen and phosphorus in sediment were lost. They found that nitrogen loss decreased with steeper slopes and heavier rain, while phosphorus loss was less affected. As sediment loss increased, nitrogen loss decreased but phosphorus loss increased. Phosphorus was more stable in the soil and had a stronger impact on downstream water quality.
