New method accurately separates baseflow hydrographs, improving water resource management.
A new method for separating baseflow from hydrographs was developed using the Horton infiltration capacity curve and antecedent precipitation index. This method was tested on rainfall-runoff data from three different watersheds in China and compared to other existing methods. Results showed that the new method aligns well with the natural hydrological processes, especially in analyzing the relationship between rainfall and runoff. It can help reduce subjectivity in identifying the baseflow rising limb and is beneficial for studying unit hydrographs.
