Closing Crop Yield Gaps: Key to Meeting Growing Food Demand.
Yield gap is the difference between how much crops could potentially produce and how much they actually do. This study looked at yield gaps for wheat, maize, rice, and soybeans worldwide and in China. Factors like weather, crop type, water, nutrients, pests, soil quality, and farming techniques all play a role in these gaps. Understanding and reducing yield gaps is crucial for producing more food to feed a growing population.
