High nitrogen levels boost grain growth in high-quality rice varieties.
The researchers studied how different levels of nitrogen fertilizer affect the growth of high-quality indica rice after flowering. They found that higher nitrogen levels led to better carbon and nitrogen remobilization in the plant, resulting in increased grain growth. However, low nitrogen levels promoted better translocation of carbon and nitrogen in certain plant parts, but overall reduced grain harvest. The study showed a strong correlation between nitrogen levels, carbon and nitrogen remobilization, and grain growth. In conclusion, nitrogen fertilization plays a crucial role in the growth and quality of high-quality indica rice.
