New Hybrid Rice Boosts Yields by 8.77% in Mountainous Villages
A new hybrid rice combination called Qiyou 546 was created by crossing a male sterile line with a restoring line. The goal was to develop a rice variety with cold resistance for mountainous areas in Guizhou. Qiyou 546 had an average yield of 620.06kg/667m2, which was 8.77% higher than the control variety in regional tests. It also showed resistance to rice blast disease and was officially registered as a commercial variety in 2014.
