High Nitrogen Fertilizer Use Linked to Significant Ammonia Pollution in Wheat Season
The study looked at how ammonia from fertilizer evaporates in wheat fields in North China. They found that applying fertilizer at different times affects how much ammonia is lost. More ammonia is lost when fertilizer is applied at the beginning of the season compared to later. The amount of ammonia lost increases with higher amounts of fertilizer used. Temperature also plays a big role in how much ammonia evaporates.
