Indica rice outperforms Japonica in yield and nitrogen absorption rates
Nitrogen is crucial for increasing rice yield. A study compared medium-maturing indica and japonica rice under different nitrogen levels. Indica rice had higher grain yield than japonica rice, especially at 225 kg/ha of nitrogen. Indica rice had more panicles and heavier grains. Indica rice also absorbed more nitrogen during growth stages, leading to higher yields. The study found a strong positive correlation between nitrogen uptake and grain yield in indica rice.
