High phosphorus release in Dutang Reservoir sediment threatens water quality.
The study looked at phosphorus release in the sediment of Dutang Reservoir in spring. They used a diffusive model and sediment core incubation to estimate phosphorus release flux. Results showed the sediment releases phosphorus at a rate of 1.14 to 1.44 mg·m-2·d-1. Phosphorus species in the sediment were mainly Fe/Al bounded and organic phosphorus, making up over 90% of the total phosphorus. This suggests that the sediment is actively releasing phosphorus.
