Toxic Air Chokes Beijing and Shanghai, Urgent Action Needed
The study analyzed air pollution in Beijing and Shanghai in 2004 and 2005. They found that PM10 and SO2 levels varied greatly in Beijing, with SO2 being worse due to coal combustion. Shanghai had better air quality overall. Both cities had high levels of inhalable particulate matter (PM10). NO2 levels were relatively stable. Shanghai's air quality was better due to factors like geography and climate.
