Climate change leads to decreased evaporation and extreme weather patterns.
The study analyzed changes in pan evaporation and climate factors in the Dongjiang Basin from 1961 to 2003. Results showed a significant decrease in annual pan evaporation, especially in spring and post-flood season. The decrease was linked to lower sunshine duration and wind speed. Areas south of Qiuxiang River mouth and Dongjiang River delta saw a clear decrease in pan evaporation, while the north saw a slight increase. Sunshine duration and wind speed decreased notably in 1981 and 1982, while average temperature increased significantly after 1987. Relative humidity decreased notably after 1986. The main reason for pan evaporation decrease was reduced sunshine duration, followed by lower wind speed.
