Constructed wetlands effectively remove nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater, improving water quality.
A study tested a wetland system to clean wastewater with high nutrient levels. They used different plants, substrates, and water sources. In the first phase, the system stabilized after 25 days and removed 60% of phosphorus and 80.46% of nitrogen. In the second phase, it removed even more, reaching 86.8% of phosphorus and 90.08% of nitrogen. The treated water met quality standards for surface water and sewage plants. This shows that the wetland system can effectively clean wastewater with different nutrient levels over a year.
