The study looked at how chicken manure and rice straw change during composting. They found that nitrogen loss was highest in the first 21 days of composting, with over 15% lost after 70 days. Ammonia release was a major way nitrogen was lost. Adding 1% rice straw to chicken manure reduced nitrogen loss by 2.52%.
