Muddy Waters: Jing River Sediment Surges, Threatening Downstream Communities
The Jing River has more sediment than the Wei River, even though it has less water flow. This is because human activities have damaged the ecological system in the Jing River basin. The amount of sediment in a river is closely related to how fast the water is flowing. In the Wei River, less sediment is carried because there is less water due to climate changes. In both rivers, most of the sediment is carried during certain months, not evenly throughout the year.
