High Feature Correlation Leads to 785.7% Increase in Misclassification Rate
The efficiency of a Naive Bayes classifier decreases as the correlation between features increases and the distance between classes widens. In a simulation with two classes, each having two features with Gaussian density, the misclassification rate of the classifier increased by 43.8%, 220.8%, and 785.7% when the correlation between features was 0.8 and the distance between classes was 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
