Polluted River Threatens Downstream Communities, Urgent Action Needed
The scientists used a computer program called WASP to study water quality in the Dongliao River. They focused on ammonia pollution in 2009. Results revealed that ammonia levels were highest in dry seasons, followed by wet periods, and lowest during normal water periods. Pollution was most severe in segments 8, 9, and 10 downstream of Liaoyuan City. The study showed that pollution sources and reduced rainfall were the main reasons for the river's worsening water quality. Their work could help improve water quality in the Dongliao River and protect its environment.
